Newborn sessions are typically planned pretty far in advance. I work with clients over the phone to discuss the type of portraits they are interested in and send them too much information on what to expect and how to prepare their home for the session. I really try to get all of the logistical information out of the way so that Mom and Dad can focus in on the final stages of pregnancy and delivery. We set up a tentative session date based on the mother's projected due date and then wait for the phone call to let me know when baby actually arrives. Accordingly, we scheduled Carter's session for early February so I was pretty surprised to get a quick email in early January letting me know that Carter decided to enter the world a little early. Thankfully, Carter and his Mommy are doing wonderfully well and I was blessed with the honor to photograph this amazingly perfect and totally tiny baby boy. I love newborn sessions for the simple fact that I get to hold and soothe these precious babies. This first photograph has become one of my all-time favorites. Knowing that his family made him the amazing crown that he is wearing endears this image to my heart. Welcome to the world baby Carter. You are loved!
