I asked my little Lucy what she would like to do today and she responded with "Adventure Day!" In our family, adventure day, was an invention by my mother to turn ordinary errands into sounding really fun and appealing. She would wake us in the morning and tell us it was "Adventure Day" and we would hop in the car not knowing where we would end up. It took us several years to realize that somehow we always ended up at the bank, the grocery store, or the dry cleaners with a toy store or trip through the drive through thrown in there to entice us into wanting to go again. However, Lucy has equated "Adventure Day" to doing something outside, and this girl really loves a real adventure! So we put on our rain boots and went out to explore some flooded trails I had glimpsed recently while out driving. Luckily the sun made a brief appearance (right before it started hailing) and we had a magnificent time wading through deep waters, collecting sticks and chasing geese.

When we get snow here, in the Portland area, it is a major event! Traffic stops, schools close and the whole city seems to shut down. A few weekends ago we accumulated up to six inches or more and people blogged about our "snowpocolypse" and getting "cabin fever" because they were trapped inside for days. Friends and family from other states seem to get a good chuckle over our snow crazed attitudes and I took advantage of our snow covered landscape and ventured out to the Gorge for some beautiful frozen photographs.
