This beautiful family welcomed a new baby girl this year! I always enjoy capturing family photos for them each year and this session was extra special. Evie is already 6 months old and enjoying life with her adorable big brother and their loving parents. We spent the evening capturing photos around their house and down the street at a neighborhood park.
Little Lucy has spent the last month or two, immersed in all things Oz. It started with an adapted children's book based on the original story by L. Frank Baum. She couldn't get enough. We read more adaptations and eventually read the entire first book! We watched movies, we listened to the original soundtrack, we reenacted the story many times over. The Portland Children's Museum even has a current exhibit that is all about Oz. She walked the yellow brick road, hopped on the Wicked Witch's bicycle and climbed through her castle. She even met Glinda and her friends tonight on Halloween Eve! Naturally, Lucy chose Dorothy for her costume this year and mom and dad eagerly joined in as the Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion. I love how this magical story took hold of our Lucy's imagination. I wish each of you a magical Halloween and hope that your imagination takes you to new and wondrous places!
I absolutely love the opportunity to build lasting relationships with families and watch their children grow. I have known Amy since our college years together at the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) This was my third session with her son Everett and he is all boy! I loved following him around looking at leaves, digging in the dirt and finding bugs.
We finally made a family trip down to California to meet the newest member of our family... Cousin Wyatt! My little nephew is full of smiles and on the move. At six months old he army crawls everywhere and constantly pulls himself to standing. We know he'll be walking, or rather running, in no time! He also inherited the Luis family big, beautiful, blue eyes. We had planned an earlier trip in January right after he was born and canceled due to sickness. I was more than disappointed to miss out on taking some of my favorite newborn portraits. However, who says you can't pose a sleepy 6 month old! We are so happy to have Wyatt in our lives and you can bet I will continue to photograph this smiley beautiful little fellow as he grows.
I drive myself a little crazy every year planning Lucy's birthday party. However, I truly love putting it all together and this year was no exception. We hosted this year's party at the Peachy Pig Farm where the kids were able to decorate a pail and pick berries, view and pet some farm animals and just run around and be kids. I had fun making many of the cow themed decorations and her adorable pillowcase birthday dress. What would I do with out Pinterest!?! A huge thank you goes to my mom who always pitches in to help things run smoothly and to my husband Grant, who took a few of the photos featured below. (He's getting pretty good!)
I don't know how to adequately express my love for this little girl. With each year, month, day and breath she fills my life and heart with so much joy and love that I simply melt into a puddle of tears. I know I can not slow the eternally ticking clock, but I can savor these precious moments and try my best to capture them in a way in which I can look back and remember.
This magical evening started with tears as I dragged my poor, overly photographed child out past 8 pm to capture the sun setting. We drove out Scholls Ferry Road hoping to capture a barn in the background and thirty minutes later finally pulled into a church parking lot overlooking a beautiful wheat field and the perfect barn. After the tears dried, we danced, sang and played in those magical fields together. She is part silly, part serious and filled to the brim with the ability to create an imaginative world where I could set up camp and stay forever. She is my Lucy.
What happens when Hawaiian twin brothers become father's of adorable babies born less than two weeks apart? They host the most amazing 1st birthday Luau for their babes complete with kalua pork, hula dancing, music, laughter and the joining of families from near and far. I hold a special affinity for happa babies, being one myself, and it was so much fun to follow this group of seven gorgeous cousins. It was a true honor to capture these precious memories and portraits for the grandparents present with all of their grandchildren. Hau'oli La Hanau Ellen & Koamalu!
Our family usually spends Memorial Day weekend celebrating my husband's birthday. We started our three-day birthday extravaganza with a beautiful hike up Dog Mountain. I absolutely love when we can take advantage of living in our gorgeous Pacific Northwest! The wildflowers are blooming, the sun made an appearance, and our little trooper is becoming such an awesome hiker. My heart is full. Wishing you and your families a weekend full of adventure, wonder and full hearts.
I have lived in Oregon for most of my life and this year I finally made it out to the amazing tulip festival at the Wooden Shoe Farm. I admit that big festivals and fairs can be a little overwhelming for me, but the tulips were quite spectacular and our Little Lucy delighted in all of the fun activities. I would love to photograph your family or little ones amongst the tulips. It is almost too late this year but contact me if you are interested and maybe we can squeeze in a session before the tulips are gone and the festival is over.
Sundays are usually pretty busy around here. So I luxuriated in a day filled with nothing but relaxation and play time. We napped, we stayed in our pajamas and our little princess had fun with one of her favorite activities, getting ready for the ball. I love moments like these that help me slow down and appreciate our life together. What are Sundays like at your house? Please share your family's favorite weekend activities!
