I drive myself a little crazy every year planning Lucy's birthday party. However, I truly love putting it all together and this year was no exception. We hosted this year's party at the Peachy Pig Farm where the kids were able to decorate a pail and pick berries, view and pet some farm animals and just run around and be kids. I had fun making many of the cow themed decorations and her adorable pillowcase birthday dress. What would I do with out Pinterest!?! A huge thank you goes to my mom who always pitches in to help things run smoothly and to my husband Grant, who took a few of the photos featured below. (He's getting pretty good!)
I don't know how to adequately express my love for this little girl. With each year, month, day and breath she fills my life and heart with so much joy and love that I simply melt into a puddle of tears. I know I can not slow the eternally ticking clock, but I can savor these precious moments and try my best to capture them in a way in which I can look back and remember.
This magical evening started with tears as I dragged my poor, overly photographed child out past 8 pm to capture the sun setting. We drove out Scholls Ferry Road hoping to capture a barn in the background and thirty minutes later finally pulled into a church parking lot overlooking a beautiful wheat field and the perfect barn. After the tears dried, we danced, sang and played in those magical fields together. She is part silly, part serious and filled to the brim with the ability to create an imaginative world where I could set up camp and stay forever. She is my Lucy.
What happens when Hawaiian twin brothers become father's of adorable babies born less than two weeks apart? They host the most amazing 1st birthday Luau for their babes complete with kalua pork, hula dancing, music, laughter and the joining of families from near and far. I hold a special affinity for happa babies, being one myself, and it was so much fun to follow this group of seven gorgeous cousins. It was a true honor to capture these precious memories and portraits for the grandparents present with all of their grandchildren. Hau'oli La Hanau Ellen & Koamalu!
We spent the morning at an adorable Strawberry Shortcake themed 4th birthday party for our sweet friend Hannah. Lucy decided to dress like Orange Blossom and couldn't wait to celebrate with her special friend. These girls melt my heart! My dear friend Kirstin (Hannah's mom) put together an amazing party, themed food and decorations and kid perfect activities. Each child decorated their own pot and planted a strawberry plant to take home. It was also a first time for most party goers to give "pin the stem on the strawberry" a try - it was hilarious! Cupcakes were had as well as tons of fun. The party highlight for me was this conversation around the kid's table:
kid 1: My brother is at T-ball but my favorite is soccer.
kid 2: My favorite restaurant is Applebee's.
kid 3: My favorite is Red Robin.
Lucy: I really like Batman.
I am a huge advocate for literacy and a big fan of Dr. Seuss. (My years as a first grade teacher taught me the magic of these books for young children. My Little Lucy is also a big fan and we have been reading tons of Dr. Seuss books in order to prepare for his birthday celebration (March 2nd). Her favorite is "Fox in Socks" and mine is "The Sneetches and Other Stories". We celebrated a little early with a Seusstastically filled day of fun. We started the morning with a fun handprint activity I found on Pinterest of Thing 1 and Thing 2. (If you are interested in other fun ideas, check out my boards and follow me on Pinterest!) We then headed to the library for story time and made it back for lunch ala Cat in the Hat. And what's a birthday without cake! We had fun singing happy birthday to Dr. Suess and Lucy loved blowing out the candle. It was a day filled with magic and I think Theodore Seuss Geisel would approve!
I have been playing with timeline covers for Facebook in an attempt to offer them to clients as part of their session package with me. I love this template I found by Rita over at www.thecoffeeshopblog.com. She is amazing!!! I have been following her for quite some time and she has a ton of free photoshop actions, storyboards, and other graphic design elements as well as some great tutorials. She has designed this Facebook cover to be fully adjustable so you can really customize all aspects. My goal is to start designing some new covers of my own. Check back to see what I can come up with. In the meantime, do you have experience with Facebook covers? Do you think potential clients would like one featuring photos from their session?
You might recognize this little cutie and his adorable parents from his 6 month photo session. He is still full of smiles and I had so much fun watching him explore the park. He was especially fond of all of the ducks we encountered at Dawson Creek but not so interested in the cake! And check out the adorable banner his mom made (with a little help) that went with his "Gentleman" themed birthday party - so cute! Happy Birthday Everett!
I went "bananas" putting together Lucy's Curious George themed birthday party this year! Even the Man with the Yellow Hat made an appearance and Little Lucy was a very happy monkey. Activities for all of the "good little monkeys" that attended included a rice filled sensory bin, Curious George coloring sheets, feed George the bananas bean bag toss and a punch box filled with a stuffed George for each "monkey" to take home. Guests were asked to sign Lucy's Curious George and the Birthday Surprise book and we feasted on pizza, veggies, fruit kabobs and banana cupcakes. I find so much creative joy putting together themed parties and I would love to plan and put together your next big party. Please send me a message if you are interested!
Our Little Lucy turns two next month and she loves Curious George! This birthday is all about George and the wonders and curiosities that abound in the world of a two-year-old. Lucy's very favorite Curious George book is "Curious George Goes Camping". Every night before bed we MUST read this particular book and now Lucy can recite many of the words. Boy does that melt this mama's heart! Enjoy the photographs of our curious girl in her party outfit and stay tuned for more party pictures in July!
